How to Even Out a Dynasty Trade
Not every dynasty trade starts fair. Sometimes you love a player enough to overpay slightly. Sometimes you're targeting a specific asset and need to sweeten the deal. Sometimes you receive a lowball offer and want to know exactly what it would take to make it work.

Why Trades Get Lopsided
Different formats, different values. The most common source of trade disagreement is using different value references. A manager using 1QB values to evaluate a superflex trade will systematically undervalue QBs. A manager without TEP adjustment will undervalue TEs. The format settings above ensure both sides are evaluated on the same scale.
Emotional attachment. Managers overprice players they own and underprice players they don't. It's human nature. Using objective trade values removes the emotional component and gives both managers a neutral reference point.
Information asymmetry. One manager knows something the other doesn't — a depth chart change, an injury report, a looming suspension. Trade values reflect the public market; private information can justify paying above or below market value.
Win-now vs rebuild misalignment. A contending manager values current production more than dynasty value. A rebuilding manager values picks and young players more. The same player can be fairly priced for one manager and expensive for another based purely on team situation.
How to Use the Suggestions in a Negotiation
The suggestions above give you a starting point for counter-offers, not a final answer. Here's how to use them effectively:
Use the single-player suggestions first. Clean trades (two players for one, or one player for one player plus a pick) are easier to negotiate than complex multi-player deals. Start with the simplest suggestion that gets the trade close to fair.
Offer the tier below. If the tool suggests adding a WR worth 2,400, offer to add a WR worth 2,000 and see if your trade partner accepts. The tool gives you the fair value anchor — you negotiate from there.
Pick suggestions are often the cleanest add-on. Adding a draft pick to a trade is less emotionally charged than adding a player. It doesn't require either manager to give up a player they're attached to. When a single player won't bridge the gap cleanly, a pick often does.
Show your trade partner the tool. Sometimes the most effective negotiating move is sharing the link to this page with the exact trade pre-loaded. "Here's what the math says — what do you think?" moves the conversation from opinion to data.
When Lopsided Trades Make Sense
Fair value trades aren't always the right move. Sometimes paying above market value is correct:
Targeting a specific need. If you desperately need a QB in superflex and there's only one available in your league, paying a premium makes sense. The market price doesn't account for your specific roster context.
Selling future value for current wins. A contending manager who trades a 2027 first-round pick for a proven starter is technically overpaying in dynasty value — but if that starter helps them win a championship, the premium was worth it.
Relationship trades. In long-running dynasty leagues, goodwill and relationships matter. Occasionally making a trade that slightly favors your partner builds the kind of trust that creates future trading opportunities.
