How Dynasty Playoff Odds Are Calculated
This calculator uses Monte Carlo simulation — the same method used by sports analytics platforms to calculate playoff probabilities. It runs 10,000 simulated versions of your remaining season, counts how often each team makes the playoffs, and converts that to a percentage.
What Monte Carlo simulation means
Rather than calculating a single deterministic outcome, Monte Carlo simulation models the randomness inherent in fantasy football. Each remaining game has a win probability based on the team's current record — better teams win more often but not always. After 10,000 simulated seasons the distribution of outcomes gives you an accurate probability for each team.
Why your current record matters more than roster value
A team that starts 6-1 has dramatically higher playoff odds than a 4-3 team with a stronger roster. The math compounds — a 6-1 team needs fewer wins from remaining games to clinch a playoff spot, and they have more room to absorb losses. This is why early-season results matter so much in dynasty.
The bubble zone (30-70% odds)
Teams in this range have the most to gain from in-season roster moves. A trade that adds one win's worth of expected value moves a 45% team to roughly 52% — a meaningful shift. Teams above 75% should protect their position; teams below 25% should consider the future.
Points For as a tiebreaker
